les Granges de Mirabel Viognier 2017 from the Ardeche
This is a remarkably focused Viognier, in fact, I’m not sure I would recognise it as a Viognier at all. The aromatics are all there - the honeysuckle and peach - but they are subtle, and the palate, which in Viognier often borders on oiliness, is here all chiselled precision, minerality, and length. It’s rare, but it’s such a tight Viognier that I think we can even give it good cellaring prospects - Drink now to 2030? This is excellent: prepare for the unexpected.
