Baron de Boutisse Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2015
"Baron de Boutisse", Saint-Émilion Grand Cru red 2015. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Cabernet Franc (88/10/1/1%). Of their two Saint-Émilion Grand Cru wines, the Baron de Boutisse is the earlier drinking wine and is made to highlight the buxom fruit power of the vineyard, a style that was magnified by the regally fine grape-ripening conditions in 2015. This is a flagrantly, flamboyantly fruit-driven drop with oodles of meaty flavour and exotic pleasure in every glass. It's polished and smooth on the palate with the finest covering of dusty tannins. It's not as tight and tannic as the Château Boutisse, and its cellaring potential is shorter, but this was clearly made to be enjoyed young and damn it is good! I defy you to find a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru as good as this for under $100, anywhere in Australia. Drink now to 2025.
