Chateau Boutisse Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2016
Château Boutisse, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru red 2016. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Cabernet Franc (70/20/5/5%). This is the top and most cellarable wine from the estate and it is all about channelled power and finesse, particularly from a vintage such as 2016 that saw perfectly balanced ripening conditions throughout the summer resulting in a wine of sultry gracefulness. The aromatics are precise and fine, cassis, spice, and rich dark mulberry, with smoky-oaky notes and densely layered complexity. As with all great wines though it is on the palate that the pedigree shows itself with extra-tight tannin line and ample body pulled into balance by some subtly assertive acidity. Massively rated by international journalists such as Antonio Galloni from Vinous Media who scored it 90-93/100 and commented:
“The 2016 Boutisse is simply gorgeous. Pliant and vibrant on the palate, the wine pulses with energy. Red and purplish stone fruit are given an extra kick of exotic beauty in this rich, sumptuous Saint- Emilion. The presence of Cabernet Franc and Carménère in the blend adds complexity and nuance. All the elements fall into place. This is a super-attractive wine.”
