Pierre Usseglio Chateaneuf du Pape 2016 Grenache blend
80% Grenache, 10% Shiraz, and 5% each of Cinsault and Mourvèdre.
This is a bombshell of a wine from the greatest Châteauneuf-du-Pape that I have ever known: 2016. It was a year when wines from this area got ultra-ripe but without losing freshness or going overboard. The fruit concentration and depth is dizzying, like looking down into a bottomless pit from out of which emerge wave after wave of blackberry, dark frtui, earth, leather, smoke, oak, tobacco... it's endless! And then the palate: it's no shrinking violet! this is a massively full bodied wine that harbours enough tannin to whip a bull! Enjoy. Drink now to 2035.
