NEWS:

Aromatic intensity, 0 to 5 points. Feeble, 1, unforthcoming, 2, present, 3, lively, 4, jumps out the glass, 5. VIBRANT WILD FRUITS. THIS WINE SMELLS SO FUN IT’S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE BAIRD GOVERNMENT BANS IT! 4 POINTS

Aromatic complexity, 0 to 5 points. Simpleton, 1, straight forward, 2, interesting, 3, complex, 4, complex with dramatic definition, 5. COMPLEXITY ISN’T ITS STRONG POINT BUT THEN AGAIN IT WASN’T KILEY MINOGUE’S EITHER. 3 POINTS.

Aromatic attractiveness, 0 to 20 points. Vile to malodorous, 0 to 5, questionable to present but not attractive, 5 to 10, faintly attractive to lovely, 11 to 15, makes you smile through to "wow, phwoar!", 16 to 20. COMPELLINGLY ATTRACTIVE NOSE, 15 POINTS.

   Palate intensity, 0 to 5 points. Dead, 1, dull, 2, alive, 3, punchy, 4, gripping, 5. IT’S A 2015 SO IT’S GOT GRUNT GALORE. 4

"Mouthscape" or "palate complexity", i.e. how much of an interesting experience in the mouth a wine delivers, 0 to 5 points. Undifferentiated, 1, simply defined, 2, classically structured, 3, structured with dynamism, 4, vividly characterful, 5. AGAIN, IT’S NOT TRYING TO BE OVER-SOPHISTICATED. 3 POINTS

Drinkability, i.e. how much the wine's total taste characteristics leave you thirsting for more, 0 to 20 points. Repellent to unpleasant, 0 to 5, questionable to untempting, 5 to 10, vaguely inviting to pleasantly thirst-quenching, 11 to 15, satisfying through to deeply gratifying, 16 to 20. BUT BUY IS IT THIRST-INDUCING AND TEMPORARILY QUENCHING TOO. 16 POINTS

The morning-after test, i.e. how this wine looks on the second day after opening and beyond, 0 to 5 points. Dead, 1, dull, 2, lively, 3, still vibrant, 4, vibrant and with added interest compared to previous day, 5. FADES AWAY ON DAY 2 BUT STILL NICE ENOUGH AND THE PALATE POWERS ON. 3 POINTS

Cellarability, 0 to 5 points. Must be drunk asap, 1, Could hold for one year, 2, would repay 3 to 5 years, 3 points, 6 to 15 years, 4 points, 16+ years, 5 points. 2 POINTS

Individuality or how distinct the personality of a particular wine is, 0 to 10 points. Totally characterless, 1, very dull, 2, weak generic, 3, stronger generic, 4, strong but still not unique beyond very broad personality, 5, mildly eccentric, 6, unusual, 7, highly distinct, 8, distinct and original, 9, utterly unique, 10. THIS IS A FLAT OUT FREAK OF THE BORDEAUX WINE SCENE. IT’S THE FIRST OF ITS KIND. NOTHING LIKE IT BEFORE. THIS IS THE FIRST WINE OF A NEW ERA. 9 POINTS

Look, packaging, label, 0 to 10 points. Ugly to unattractive, 0 to 3, questionable to nice, 4 to 6, eye catching and attractive through to profound and beautiful, 7 to 10. FOR SHEER GUTSY ORIGINALITY IN BREAKING FROM THE BORDEAUX LABELING TRADITIONS, THIS WINE DESERVES RESPECT. 6 POINTS

Environmental credentials, story, philosophy, history, brand weight, 0 to 10 points. Industrially manufactured through to commercial cliché, 1 to 3, basic story through to clearly expressed concept, 4 to 6, stimulating idea through to prestigious profundity, 7 to 10. IT’S DIFFICULT TO OVER-RATE QUITE WHAT A BRAVE GAMBIT THIS WINE IS, THROWING AWAY THE TRADITIONAL BORDEAUX TEMPLATE AND STEPPING OUT IN FRONT OF THE CROWD. 7 POINTS FOR SHEER BALLS.
