35 dollars: Boovability "Juliette" Adelaide Hills Shiraz / Viognier
A multi-vintage wine from Mount Torrens Vineyard in the warmer Adelaide Hills where we also make Lady at Dawn Shiraz. This was our first attempt at a wine made to match a painting: the portrait of Juliette Recamier shown on the label. The idea was to maximise the "femininity" of the wine by minimising extraction from the grapes via a wide range of non-interventionist techniques and shunning wood barrels. The aim was perfume and prettiness, as exhibited by the lady on the label.

When to drink: Drink 2015 - 2021
“Adelaide Hills shiraz from a blend of vintages (2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013). From the Mount Torrens Vineyard. Eclectic but delicious to drink. It has weight and sweetness but it’s not at all simple. It packs a punch and keeps you on its side. Blackberry jam, earth, chocolate, streaky herbs and strident tannin. Powerful. Shows some alcohol warmth but bang! this is impressive.”
