Domaine de Bila-Haut RED, Cotes-du-Roussillon 2017 Grenache Shiraz
I worked at Bila-Haut as the cellar manager back in 2007 and fell in love with the Roussillon region and its wild and ancient vineyards, tanned by the sun and refreshed by the “Tramontane” wind. A true winemaking paradise with very reasonable wine prices due to the area’s wild obscurity and passionately independent people. This wine is ripe and earthy, medium-bodied, with excellent basic structure. It's also a wine that develops beautifully over a couple of days from lifted and floral on first opening to dark cherry, mulberry, and chocolate-y depth later. There's nothing in the Côtes-du-Rhône that offers value-for-money like this in a Shiraz/Grenache blend. 40% Grenache, 40% Shiraz, and 20% Carignan and Mourvèdre.
