le Pian delle Vigne 2015 Rosso di Montalcino
This is a wine that took my breath away. Aromatically it is highly lifted in a way that is reminiscent of aged Bordeaux, pure and pretty, but behind that perfume is 100 leagues of fruit depth. But, as ever, it is on the palate where a great wine plays its trumps, and this little gem has a whole lot to say in the mouth. The initial impression is of an enormous wine setting out its stall but then the acidity and tannin kick in and win the fight, pinning back the expansiveness with a regiment's worth of discipline. This is a total tour-de-force and I highly recommend it to you. Best Rosso di Montalcino I've ever had. A wow-wine. Drink now to 2035+.
