This mixed dozen will consist of 2 bottles each wines #1 and #2, and 4 bottles each of wines #3 and #4:
1. Château Calvimont Graves Blanc 2017.
I'm recommending two vintages of the white Graves (a Sauvignon/Sémillon blend) because I loved them both equally although the styles of the two years could not have been more different. The 2017 is an electric white with tight and lifted aromatics plus a delectable note of toasted brioche that leads into a high voltage palate reminiscent of old school Chablis. One of the best Graves Blanc I have ever tasted. An exceptional white wine in a riveting style. Drink now to 2025.
2. Château Calvimont Graves Blanc 2016 (note vintage).
In contrast to the 2017, this 2016 has more mellow and fruit-rich aromatics, while the palate has a blissfully gentle, round, and less acid-driven softness. Both vintages are outstanding but pick the '17 for zing and '16 for softness. Or get some of both and taste the difference for yourself. The 2016 will drink excellently from now to 2025 too.
3. "La Quille" rosé 2018, Bordeaux. While rosé is gushing out from Provence in an industrial torrent, Calvimont are making rosé in small batches under their experimental, bistro-oriented "La Quille" label and are proud to make it with all the seriousness that goes into their Graves white and reds. Made from Merlot the aromatics are complex, subtley layered, and the palate is extra dry, clean, and refreshing. Colour is indistinguishable from Provence salmon-pink but the complexity, length, crystalline cut, and savoury structure mark this out as a serious wine in its own right. Please note that although all the fruit for this wine is grown in the Graves district, because there is no official recognition of a "Graves rosé", this wine has to be labelled as "Bordeaux rosé". Drink now to 2025.
4. Château Calvimont Graves rouge 2017. 50/50 Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Tight and lifted Cabernet aromatics with well defined cassis fruit, pencil shavings, cedar, wood smoke, and gentle oak notes, while the palate is firmly stuctured with lively tannin, fresh edge, and medium-bodied length through a long and complete palate. Drink now to 2030+.
