la Chartreuse de Coutet Sauternes 2013, 375ml bottle
As a general rule, 2013 was a poor year for red wines in particular in Bordeaux, but exactly the same climatic reasons that made it a shocker for reds made it a humdinger for sweet wines like this. The Chartreuse de Coutet 2013 is dark amber-gold in colour with dense marmalade, quince, fig, and peach aromatics. The palate is unctuously sweet but with a zinging undertow of acidity that rushes in to cleanse the palate at the end of its very long finish. Drink now to 2030.
