luccarelli Bianco Chardonnay and Malvasia 2018 from Puglia
I thought the Luccarelli reds were possibly the best value wines on Earth, but their white stablemate might beg to differ. It's a blend of Chardonnay and Malvasia but the Chardonnay takes subtle precedence in the aromatics although the fact this is a blend can be seen in its sophisticated complexity where both varieties play a notable part. The overall aromatic impression is of a Petit Chablis with something interestingly different about it. But it's the palate that really sets this wine apart because it barely troubles the scales at 12% alcohol and the acidity is vivacious and long, so light and yet so serious too. Just like the reds, the Luccarelli Bianco is a wine of genuine class at about the lowest regular price you can hope to pay for real wine that can please the crowd as well as the connoisseurs. It seems too good to be true, and yet it's here in my glass and the case it makes is unflinchingly serious.
