This mixed selection consists of: Three bottles of wine #1 (the Chaponnière white 2018), 2 bottles of wine #2 (the Premier Cru white Les Cloux 2017), three bottles of wine #3 (Bourgogne red 2018), and 2 bottles of wine #4 (Les Chauchoux Monopole red 2017):
TWO WHITES, 100% CHARDONNAY:
1. Rully "Chaponnière" 2018. Scintillating Chardonnay of ethereal lift, exotic intensity, and a savoury signature note that is earthy and rich like cheddar cloth and fascinating to follow as it weaves in and out of the Chardonnay fruit matrix. The palate is zesty and juicy, rich and tart, extremely long in the mouth, and devastatingly more-ish. I confess to a very deep love of this wine, of which I have pulled the cork on many bottles and never been anything less than blown away by its sheer and shameless deliciousness.
Drink now to 2030.
Post-arrival price will be $48.95. Today's pre-departure price is $34.95 in any dozen.
2. Rully Premier Cru "Les Cloux" 2017. Statuesque Chardonnay, smoky with lemon-cheesecake fruit, lashings of caramel complexity, and woody/savoury barrel ferment notes that build and intrigue, rolling out in a sinuous and soothing narrative. The palate is medium-bodied but an electrifying presence, sappy with long, lingering acidity. A seriously classy performance that I found reminiscent of Chablis Grand Cru for its controlled eccentricity.
Drink now to 2030.
Post-arrival price will be $53.95. Today's pre-departure price is $43.95 in any dozen.
AND TWO REDS, 100% PINOT NOIR .
3. Bourgogne "Tête de Cuvée" 2018. Pinot Noir from Burgundy is never heavy and the reds of Chauchoux are the complete embodiment of that principle, even with this wine that is so reasonably priced that it might well find itself becoming your everyday glass of Burgundy. The aromatics are quintessential Pinot Noir, bright and ripe like the burgundian delicacy of "griottes" (miniature, extra-concentrated cherries), while the palate is fresh and nimble with some fine tannin chew on the end. Very food-friendly.
Drink now to 2022.
Post-arrival price will rise to $36.95 per bottle. Today's pre-departure price is $29.95 in any dozen.
4. Rully "Les Chauchoux" Monopole 2017. From the moment you put your nose to the glass this is a wine that screams "Burgundy!!!!" with its deeply evocative, earthy, forest floor notes and searing fruit intensity. This is Pinot Noir on its "high beam" setting and the impact is compelling. The palate is very tight, medium-bodied, and cloaked in swathes of fine/gripping tannins that will see this wine cellar nicely through to 2035.
Post-arrival price will be $48.95 per bottle. Today's pre-departure price is $43.95 in any dozen.
