Trimbach Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre Gewurztraminer 2008 from Alsace
This is my wildcard suggestion for you, to dive into the unknown and have all your thoughts about what you love in wine turned on their head! Or that's how it was for me the first time I tried this little gem, which remains one of my favourite wines of all time. Where to start?! The aromatic complexity is completely out of control: tea, beeswax, apricot, toffee, the finest and most pungent pot pourri that money can buy, honeysuckle, fig jam, botrytis... And yet the palate is only very barely sweet to taste. The acid balance is excellent, with full volume and length and you can really drink this like a dry wine, on its own or with very flavourful spicy food. Good Thai food and a bottle of this on Friday night and you are pretty much guaranteed to remember it as a cracking week, no matter what actually had happened in the preceding days!
I don't often drink the same wine twice but this is a drink that I come back to again and again and it never fails me. Please try this wine: you will be amazed.
