Chateau Clauzet Saint Estephe 2015
Château Clauzet Saint-Estèphe 2015. 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc. 2015 was a misrepresented vintage because its real hallmarks, in my experience, are purity and finesse. The false reputation of 2015 suggested that it was a year of outrageous power but this wine (like many other ‘15s) is 13% alcohol (big years are over 14%) and its restraint is clear to smell with fine and classic Bordeaux cassis/Cabernet fruit, subtle tobacco, cedar, and oak spice, and then a palate that is ultra smooth and dignified, firm yet gentle and long. Saint-Estèphe is close to the cooling influence of the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean, which gives a freshness, precision, and balance to the Clauzet 2015 that will see it through a long life in cellar, for drinking now to 2030+. Classic old school claret.
