TOB exclusive import: Chateau de Bouillerot Cep d'Antan Bordeaux 2018 Malbec Petit Verdot Carmenere
Château de Bouillerot "Cep d'Antan" 2018, equal portions of Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Carmenère.
This wine was one of the very first in the modern era in Bordeaux to venture away from the traditional Cabernet/Merlot combination that so dominates the region. When the Cep d'Antan cuvée was new in the early 2000s, it was ahead of its time or, more to the point, ahead of its climate era, because the early incarnations struggled for ripeness because Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Carmenère require hot summers if they are to excel. Vintages since 2015 though have been ideally hot and the 2018 is a decadent parade of antique individuality, dark and brooding, spicy, meaty, and herbal, full-bodied and swathed in tannins, crunchy and firm. This wine is delicious, savoury, extreme left field/far away from the fruit-driven centre ground, and a great way to stump anyone who thinks they know all there is know about Bordeaux.
Drink now to 2030.
