TOB exclusive import: Chateau Reynier Cuvee Heritage Bordeaux rouge Cabernet/Merlot 2016
Château Reynier "Cuvée Heritage" Bordeaux 2016. 50/50 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot.
There is an almost tropical intensity to this wine, which is off-the-chart exuberant at a paradoxically modest 12.5% alc/vol. The barrel ferment character (it's aged in the underground barrel cellar (above), formerly the quarry where they dug out the limestone to build the château) is seductively reminiscent of white Burgundy with cedar, oak, and vanilla notes, smoky bacon fat, tar and roses, thrilling complexity that swarms around its dark heart of fruit. The palate is elegant and luscious, firmly tannic, substantial, and satisfying. 2016 was a phenomenal vintage.
Drink now to 2028, probably at its peak around 2025.
